Week 3 discussion post

From my point of view, the reason why both Liang Qichao and He Zhen developed their politics on China while they were away from the country is because they were at a different country, and their thoughts were influenced while staying in a foreign country. During the late 19th century and early 20th century, most Chinese were extremely closed-minded, they had no idea what was happening outside China, so both Liang and He might have a cultural shock while arriving in a foreign country.

Personally, I have experienced something similar while moving away from China. I went to the high school in the U.S. when I was 16 years old, just one year after I finished my middle school in China, everything brand new to me, and I have learned a lot about the U.S. that I did not know when I was in China, I realized that “not most of the Americans hate China” when I was staying with my host family, because they were really nice people, also, I learned that China is not welcomed in the U.S. because of the difference of the political system.

I think the reason why Liang and He’s views on nationalism diverged is because Liang was a male and He was a female, during that period, Male and female in China could have totally different point of views, because they were educated differently, and treated differently in the family.
