Week 7 discussion post

After reading the article, I was extremely shocked by how cruel the battle of Okinawa was. Nearly half of the Okinawans died in the battle, and most of them were men. As a result, the women in Okinawa took the responsibility for raising a family by themselves. They formed alliances and helped each other. Also, because Japan was defeated in the battle, and Okinawa was on Japan’s side, the women in Okinawa were suffered from the imperialism of the U.S., the U.S. troops took the lands away from the women in Okinawa, and because of the sexism during that period, the living situations for the women were really harsh.
